Are they serious? I can track someone from as far as 600 feet away, just using my eyes.

It would be impossible to spy one someone if you had to remain within 60 feet of them at all times...

Agreed. If the person need to be within 60 feet of the wearer, they already know where the wearer/runner is

The leak of the new design is a huge competitive advantage for those receiving the information.

The iPad 2 design rendered most accessories for the iPad obsolete and accessory manufacturers are still scrambling to redesign cases, stands, et. al for the new iPad 2.

Imagine being ahead of the curve and having your accessories ready for sale at launch.

    I understand Apple's position.

Not any more than I can hold that her own stupidity led to this as well.

Like I said previously, putting yourself in harm's way should not in any way absolve you from blame for what happens. When you use yourself as a human shield, you're going to get hurt - why should it be the other guy's fault? When was the last time you tried to jump off the front of a moving vehicle?

You can't drop the price and maintain the quality, champ...
Gordon Moore would probably beg to differ (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore's_law). By the time Merom is out the current Yonah processors should become cheap enough to allow a $100-$200 price drop for a Mac mini.

The $900 iMac really is an institutional product, not aimed at personal users. Personally I think it'd work well as a corporate product too, if Apple could actually start selling to corporate customers.
It would work quite well as a secondary Mac in a multi-Mac family too...

Thanks for the info, I need to find a good reasonable price on an iPad sim card (the AT&T international rates are a joke)!

Welcome to Japan, where only a few weeks ago did DoCoMo started offering sim-only plans without having to buy a phone along with the SIM, and their rules are a joke and no employee/store agrees on how to implement them and how much it will cost (it will all end up costing a lot).

Best to get yourself a 3G, Wimax or 4G wifi modem of some kind to tether your ipad, laptop, etc. One plan, one device, and many are foreigner-friendly without all the headaches that come with the phone/iPad data plans.

This 3D tech is not as cool as it looks in these videos. Both your eyes receive the same image, so your brain knows its not 3D. Nothing will look like its "popping" out of your screen at you.

I like this better than the 3D requiring glasses. As somebody else clarified 3D is being able to see all three dimensions.

Let's hope that if they do it, there is an option to switch it on or off

    Thinking about battery life.

Think Wednesday was the general consensus. Most people are able to show up then and its close enough to the Keynote date so there should still be a good amount of people.

Yup, Wednesday at 3:00 was suggested as the "big" meeting, though somebody mentioned the the Best of Show announcements are taking place that day from 2:45 - 3:45. Does anyone feel strongly about changing the time to avoid this conflict? (I don't.)

Yeah, I think they knew from the first day of launching the iPhone 4 that there was no way they would be able to launch the 5 on time so they purposely held back on the white one to keep interest in the 4 while we have to wait longer.

    They planned it this way

    I believe you're exactly correct!

However my theory is just a bit different.

I think they blew it so bad with the white phone, that by the time they finally got it "good enough" they shelved it.

Then when it became apparent that there would not be an iPhone 5 in June or July, they dusted off the white phone to foist off on their customers.

Apple always seeking the spotlight and forever the master marketers, see this as a way to buy time. It will give them an opportunity to fix the problems their having with iPhone 5.

The new target date of Nov or Dec is their focus. One that hopefully will not drag on till Q1 of 2012.

Very exciting, especially since the music announcements typically happen in conjunction with new iPods/iTunes. I hope this is around this summer to play with.

Fallacy. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.

I think it's a fallacy to believe that apple will reduce the desirability of their hardware products, on which they make a ton of money, in order to spur sales of content, on which they break even.

Maybe fallacy is not the correct word. Apologies, since English isn't my first language (although I don't think it's incorrect usage either). But the point is simple. There is literally no reason to believe apple would skimp on user experience in order to sell more songs on iTunes.

There is only one "viewer" now, which swaps between showing the timeline or editing clips. In the left side panel, you can choose clips, and they appear in the single viewer. Then when you drag them into the timeline, the viewer switches to timeline playback.

I think that this makes a lot of sense, as you would not use the viewer and the timeline playback at the same time anyway, so why not let it switch automatically between then two, saving space.

I get that, but I need to compare frames side-by-side at times to ensure they're going to flow together. I love space-saving UI but I'm not sure that this one is going to pan out for me. I see a keystroke to quickly switch between the two in my future...

The BBC are reporting the following:

"Looking forward, 2007 is likely to be one of the most exciting new product years in Apple's history," Mr Jobs added.

Either he's trying to put us off the scent, or it looks like there'll be nothing too exciting for the rest of the year.

Anything like all those "cool PPC products (yes, plural) in the pipeline" Steve mentioned when talking about the switch to Intel processors?

    Billions?

You know, if you believe that people are out to get you long enough, eventually they will be.

Perhaps they find this position to be useful, somehow?

As for One of One Billion (me), I care not a whit who gets in my car.

I realize where you're coming from.

Disks nowadays are definitely made from the same primary components (enterprise models used to provide different mechanicals, such as spindle motors and servos). But there are some differences (whether they matter or not is debatable, such as "cherry picked platters" and additional sensors), but as you mention, the firmware is significant in some cases (definitely with hardware RAID cards).

I'll believe that when I see a study that shows that, but with 200,000 disks in the Google & CMU studies showing, and Netapp's rep stating that theres not a reliability advantage, I think I'll save the extra cash unless I know I need to outlay it.

I'm not convinced of the previous heat arguments (sudden death; but in general with electronics, heat over time tends to have a negative effect on overall lifespan). As per vibration, I'm a bit torn (multiple arrays in the same enclosure and no rubber dampening, I'm concerned that the vibration could be a problem on the newer disk types as the platter densities are high and the heads ride closer to the surface than past disk designs - I did note that the articles have some age to them, and don't reflect disks made in the last few years; article is 4 years old).

If you check out the Google study (http://labs.google.com/papers/disk_failures.pdf) theres a pretty clear correlation of heat, both too high and too low, to drive failure trends.

Then you're talking about a RAID card, enclosures, and enterprise disks (need them for the recovery time settings), where the disks alone would eat the majority of the budget ($8100 of it). That would leave $1900 for card/s and enclosures (SAS expander for backup disks and 1:1 port/disk ratio for the primary pool would likely be more cost effective).

Linux is a compromise, but based on the stated budget, it seems to be the way to go.

Sans Digital AS316X2HA, 16 disk RAID 6 DAS, $3295 @ Amazon including a RAID card and all cables, redundant power supplies. 14x Hitachi 0S03230's gives you 30 TB RAID-6 with 2 hot spares, and you still have 2 empty drive bays for expansion. Grand total $5255, and you can get a second identical setup for backup and you're only $510 over the $10k budget.

Run Mac native afpdserver and it will humiliate the Linux box performance-wise while being easier to maintain and integrate. Netatalk is great, but afpd has some serious performance issues, and avahi has some stability issues in my experience.

Apple, please make it with built-in Mac OS X mobile for wireless computerless presentations from Keynote or PowerPoint.

Great for any presentation at corporate, education or domestic markets.

    Huge halo effect!

Yeah, and while they're at it they can throw in Phone capabilities and make it the ultimate Smart phone. Of course it would need to have WiFi and bluetooth too! Also they should put GPS on it so that you can use it in your car as a gps system also!

Ooh, and while they're at it, they can throw in a Sattelite reciever feed so that it can run off of sattelite TV! And we could watch TV on it@ Of course they'd have to launch some new sort of sattelite that can affix to a moving signal!

Then give it some microwave and toaster capabilities and I'd be Set!!

....it's an iPod, not a super-duper all in one life saving device.
