    Funny.
I'm sure you could setup GSM repeaters and reprogram them to watch a person's cell phone as they walk around.

I really don't see the problem. Making a mountain out of a mole hill.

So what if you can slip it in someone's backpack.

I can buy radio direction finders and transmitters online and do the same.
Or I can buy GPS trackers, and also stick it on someone's car.
Those solutions are easier, more accurate, etc......and not terribly expensive.

I mean, they still need several Nike receivers in the perfect locations vs using regular direction finding or GPS tracking.....

    My thoughts exactly...

They had to put transmitters in locations they knew people with the Nike receivers would be running.

They had to know that a person with a Nike receiver would be running by.

They had to know when and where the person would be.

They had to know who the person was.

    All this before hand!

The Nike receivers do not broadcast your identity so if you dropped it and a squirrel picked it up they wouldn't even know that.

If the person wandered off track they couldn't locate them.

I just looked at the demo on video and laughed. What a contrived bit of crap. If you wanted a real challenge you would set up a test where you wouldn't know when, where, or who had the receiver before hand and then decide how worthwhile this kind of "tracking" method was. Besides, couldn't you do the same kind of thing with a wifi finder and any laptop with a wifi card? Sheesh! Leave it to the intellectually challenged media to try to sensationalize anything.

So very true. I am one of those waiting for C2D (snipped)

Another hand raising here as a current Windows user who is holding out for a C2D. I'm dying to lay my hands on a 17" MBP, but will not buy before they go to at least that upgrade.

If it takes much longer I might as well wait until after the first of the year, or change plans and stick myself with another PC. I really, really don't want to do that, but I need a new semi-portable system.

    Rental via download: yes!

    Purchase: no!

If I want to own, I want the disc. Burning answers that mostly, but a nice box set is still preferred.

But the point is, I seldom WANT to own. It's not like music. I seldom want to watch the same movie again. So let me rent--at a price that's low enough to be reasonable at whatever quality they deliver.

If quality is sub-DVD, the price had better be sub-Netflix and the selection had better be great. (Which is unlikely to happen quickly--but eventually.) Convenience/instant gratification do add some value, but I won't compromise too much on quality. (iTunes TV shows are OK quality for a missed episode, not good enough to collect and keep. For me.)

So I hope Steve Jobs gets over his no-rental mindset on this.

Put me up for own at rental prices. Bury Blockbuster, Hollywood Videos and Netflix.

Store bought DVDs are about as low in price as they can get given manufacturing, shipping, warehousing-- which is why a $4 rental can survive. Digital distribution can get the cost to own to that same price point (or below) and the studios get a payment from every viewer. Win-win-win as far as I can tell.

As noted in our forums (http://forums.macrumors.com/showpost.php?p=12384605&postcount=230), YouTube user machineurs has posted a pair of videos (1 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-77beFICSlI), 2 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAXL7L9fToQ)) showing most of yesterday's Final Cut Pro X sneak peek (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/04/12/apple-demos-final-cut-pro-x-at-nab-2011/). The introduction took place at the Final Cut Pro User Group Network SuperMeet held in conjunction with the National Association of Broadcasters' NAB Show 2011 in Las Vegas.

While the videos are not the professionally-produced broadcasts created by Apple for its higher-profile media events, they are of fairly high quality with consistent views of the slides and action on stage and solid audio quality.

Final Cut Pro X is set to launch in June and will be available through the Mac App Store for $299. Information on new versions of the other applications in the Final Cut Studio suite will be released in the future.

Nope, not a bit. Unless helping me realize that Crucial RAM is a much better deal than that site you keep pushing counts.

Since they'll buy-back my original 2 x 1GB Apple chips as well as my 2 X 2GB OWC's, the net cost is $77, not bad for their excellent customer support.

Am I missing something or is this pretty useless for DirecTV customers? Don't get me wrong, I am sure this app is awesome. But I don't see how I would change channels via my iPhone since everything is through a box. Is there a workaround? I'd like the ability to use this, but without channel swapping abilities I'm afraid it's useless for satellite and cable box customers.

Well, yes, I guess it would have to be since the eyetv hardware (which is required for this app btw) can only hook up a coaxial cable to a mac, and not a cable box to a mac. But they have their own interface for channel guides and DVR-ing and whatnot, so I don't really miss it myself. The only thing I really would miss might be channels on demand (we have comcast, not sure what directv calls them!) but I just use hulu for that type of content.

But yeah, just so you know (in case you didn't!) this isn't an app that can go with any setup or cable box..from what i can tell, it's just for use with their hardware, which doesn't support cable boxes. :o

have you ever set-up two cards like Nvidia Quadro 4000's?

I haven't... only single GPU setups for me. I'd probably go with a GT120+4000 combo.

I have thought about my tounge.
I dont think I could do it though. As a kid I had to have the doctor remove a bit of some sort of connective tissue from under my tounge so I could speak properly, guess I had a lisp or something. My under tounge throbbed for a week. Bitting my tounge hurts enough. Plus the fact the tounge is a muscle.

i started with my belly button in college, and then had my tongue pierced 7 years ago. it hurt, but not as much as you'd think. something about expecting the pain versus being surprised by it. in a psychology class in college, a study showed that injuries on the battlefield actually hurt less than injuries from a kitchen accident (on a subjective rating scale). no one expects to get hurt in the kitchen. unless you're really clumsy, i suppose.

the actual needle going through wasn't too bad. it hit right after though like biting your tongue pretty badly. but then it faded, and i was talking (but not quite intelligibly) within a few minutes. and it really didn't bleed much at all. eating was a challenge for a couple of days, and it was heaven to really be able to eat and talk better after the week they make you wait to get a shorter piece of jewelry. they made me start with 1.5 inch stud because your tongue swells at first. i went down to a 3/4 inch stud after that. still a small gauge though. i really have no interest in making the whole in my tongue any larger.

nice piercing, by the way. i like it.

not sure who down-rated this because its a good point, and one that i was going to bring up, to mention that amazon has already launched their service, so why is that not significant enough to mention in the original post? Amazon is a pretty big player in terms of e-commerce and the cloud. and yes, i believe they only allow content purchased from the amazon store to be stored on their servers...i don't see why apple wouldn't follow suit. it's the only way to guarantee the legitimacy of the content. this might be unattractive to consumers, but apple doesn't want you to download music for free from other sources. they want you to buy from them, for obvious reasons, so it makes sense that they would only allow itunes-purchased media to be stored on their servers, too. if you don't like it, tough noogies. but i guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens.

This was downgraded because it's false. Amazon allows you to upload your own music. As will apple, according to the allthingsd rumor (take that for what it's worth...it's still a rumor)

i never really bothered about power consumption when choosing a computer ,
for me other things had been far more important , like expandability , and a mini G4 is slow compared to a G5
and for the price of a early intel mini 1.5/ 1.66 /1.83 core duo with the poxy onboard intel gma 950 , a g5 is a lot cheaper most times , and if Power consumption is important he could buy a MSI wind netbook and hackintosh it as its easy ,which offers the same performance really and is using even less power , so Power consumption is not worth to mention really

Who said this was a dumbed down edit suite and no longer for pros?
This looks AMAZING and solves dozens of the gripes that I deal with on a day to day basis.
Thank god that Apple aren't scared of naysayers and traditionalists like user 'Full of Win'!!!

I would ask the same question. However, that's not how patent law works in the USA. Nokia doesn't have to spend their time/money watching other people's products, tearing them apart, and looking for patent infringement. All Nokia needs to do is SOME DAY realize their patent was infringed and then file a lawsuit. That's it.

But I am sure that Nokia knew a very long time ago that Apple was infringing and did nothing (which is perfectly their right)...and let Apple make billions...then file a lawsuit to cash in. Think about it...why would Nokia file suit immediately to earn, say, a pesky $5 or $20 million (and give Apple a chance to make the product better) when Nokia can wait years and earn hundreds of millions or billions? It's the waiting game that ALL patent holders play.

Actually, no. There are two defenses to patent infringement called laches and equitable estoppel.

Under equitable estoppel, if Apple relied on the lack of patent enforcement in choosing to continue infringing, Nokia can't suddenly pop up and assert infringement.

Under laches, if Nokia unreasonably and inexcusably delayed bringing suit and Apple is materially prejudiced by the delay, Nokia can't assert infringement.

    See, for example, http://www.patentlyo.com/patent/law/troxlerlaches.pdf

If those are fake, I sure hope Apple implements something along the lines of what those screen shots offer. Even if small. The anti-phishing stuff would've been awesome like 3 months ago for me... BUT HEY YOU LEARN!
